Welly win for worker wellbeing
Another win for Health15.
Together, with co-founders The Building Intelligence Group (TBIG), the team at Stroke Aotearoa were delighted to recently win the ACC Excellence in Health, Safety and Wellbeing Innovation 2025 award at the 2degrees Wellington Regional Business Excellence Awards in recognition of their Health15 worksite health and wellbeing programme.
The award recognises a business or organisation that has implemented or provides innovative health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives for use in the workplace to keep people safe and help them thrive.
Originally launched in 2023, Health15 combines TBIG’s strength in delivering safer, smarter places for people to live and work with Stroke Aotearoa’s resolve to reduce the impact of the country’s second leading causes of death and leading cause of disability.
Health15 brings health and wellness checks to the New Zealand workplace targeting people who often put their own wellbeing last due to time and financial constraints.
To date, more than 2,400 workers have benefitted from free onsite blood pressure and atrial fibrillation checks brought straight to their door. While a small cost is required of the employer, one simply cannot put a price on a life. Employees have certainly made the most of this free health check, people who, otherwise, may have fallen between the cracks. All too often, participants have no idea they are at risk.
One such person was Andrew. As the owner of a busy renovation company in Dunedin, Andrew has very little time to spare but he did take the time to visit Health15 at The Property Council New Zealand conference in Queenstown this year.
After a hasty visit to the GP, Andrew was prescribed medication and he’s made some healthy lifestyle changes. The 59-year-old stepdad and granddad’s bp readings are now heading in the right direction.
The award-winning programme continues to go from strength to strength having just welcomed onboard seven new partner charities: Arthritis New Zealand, Cancer Society, Heart Foundation, Epilepsy New Zealand, Diabetes New Zealand, Melanoma New Zealand and Prostate Cancer NZ.
The benefits of this comprehensive 15-minute checkup, goes beyond the cost of one’s health also. Long-term sick leave costs employers up to $1,000 per employee a year with a projected national impact by 2030 of $1.79 billion. That’s a win for everyone.
