A Q&A with our General Manager of Community Services, Nicky Mayne
Q: How does the FREE 0800 STROKE (0800 78 76 53) helpline better support people living with stroke in NZ?
It is important for stroke survivors, their whānau, carers and even health professionals. Before our helpline launched, they had to arrange in advance to talk with one of our team. Now, they can pick up the phone and speak with an expert right when they need to.
Q: How is this going to better support people navigating life after a stroke?
Navigating life after stroke can be a minefield without the right support. I think it’s often a case of you don’t know what you don’t know. People don’t know what services they’re eligible for, making their recovery more stressful than it needs to be. The 0800 STROKE (0800 78 76 53) helpline means we can step in right at the moment of difficulty, not weeks down the track when it may be too late.
Q: How can people best support this service?
By donating today! The 0800 STROKE (0800 78 76 53) helpline costs $4,807 a week to run. We urgently need the generous help of people who care about those living with stroke in New Zealand to donate to make the service possible. Every dollar truly makes a difference.
