A simpler, stronger future for Stroke Aotearoa New Zealand
We are winding up The Stroke Foundation of New Zealand Limited to create a single charitable entity under The Stroke Foundation of New Zealand Trust.
Stroke Aotearoa New Zealand has been reorganised to strengthen our support for stroke survivors and prevent stroke across Aotearoa.
We are winding up The Stroke Foundation of New Zealand Limited to create a single charitable entity under The Stroke Foundation of New Zealand Trust.
Why we made this change
For many years, Stroke Aotearoa New Zealand operated through both a company and a charitable trust and, before that, as an Incorporated Society. While this structure supported our growth, it also created duplication in administration, reporting, and compliance.
By consolidating into one charity, we are:
- Ensuring more of every dollar goes directly to service delivery
- Reducing administrative and compliance costs
- Simplifying governance and reporting
- Improving efficiency across finance, contracts, and operations
This change allows us to focus our time, energy, and resources where they matter most: supporting stroke survivors and their whānau and preventing stroke in our communities.
What has changed - and what hasn't
While our legal structure has changed, our vision, mission, services, people, and commitment remain exactly the same.
What hasn’t changed:
- Our vision of a Stroke Free Aotearoa
- Our trading name: Stroke Aotearoa New Zealand
- Our services and programmes
- Our staff, leadership, and day-to-day operations
- Our contact details, bank account, and website
What has changed:
- We will no longer operate as a limited liability company
- All operations now sit within one registered charitable trust
Our charity details
For transparency, our charity details are as follows:
Former entity (winding up):
- Legal name: The Stroke Foundation of New Zealand Limited
- Charities Commission number: CC49490
Current entity (our sole legal and charitable entity):
- Legal name: The Stroke Foundation of New Zealand Trust
- Charities Commission number: CC49241
All charitable activities, funding, and reporting are now managed through The Stroke Foundation of New Zealand Trust (CC49241). We are also a registered Charitable Trust Board (2674513).
A more efficient organisation
This change reflects our commitment to good governance, responsible stewardship of funds, and continuous improvement. By streamlining our structure, we are better placed to respond to the growing impact of stroke in Aotearoa and to work alongside communities, partners, and funders to achieve lasting change.
We’re proud to be moving forward as one strong charity, focused on impact, accountability, and a healthier future for all New Zealanders.
