Alastair Hercus

Board member

Alastair is a consultant with law firm Buddle Findlay, after a 29-year career as a partner with the firm. He spent nine years as a diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade before that.

Alastair has extensive governance experience in both the public and private sectors. He currently serves as a board member of the Natural Hazards Commission, Fonterra Shareholders’ Fund, Co-operative Life Ltd, and Invercargill Airport Ltd. He is also a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors.

Alastair has a deep understanding of the health sector and is particularly passionate about working with Stroke Aotearoa, as stroke is prevalent in his family.

Based in Wellington, Alastair joined the Board of Stroke Aotearoa in October 2025. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, particularly his mokopuna, and exploring the great outdoors. He also enjoys singing and is a member of the board of Orpheus Choir, an incorporated society and registered charity.
